Photonics technology company M Squared is harnessing the power of light to make transformative laser platforms and instrumentation for scientific researchers and industry. Its high performance systems, such as the award-winning SolsTiS platform, are critical enablers in fundamental physics research and have enabled a number of world firsts including the first demonstration of ‘teleportation’ and the first stable ultra-cold molecules. M Squared employs more than 75 staff globally and has a worldwide customer base supported via a global network of distributors, representatives and local offices, including its subsidiary M Squared Inc. in the USA.

Since 2006, M Squared’s name has been associated with science, technology and innovation. Recognised by the Deloitte Technology Fast 50, Deloitte EMEA Fast 500 and Sunday Times Fast Track 100, selected by Bloomberg as one of its Business Innovators and Everline as a Future 50 business, the company is growing fast. Most recently, M Squared was awarded the Institute of Physics Innovation Award and the prestigious 2016 Queen’s Award for Enterprise in Innovation.
EXPERIENCED TEAM
M Squared co-founders, Dr Graeme Malcolm OBE and Dr Gareth Maker have worked together for over 25 years. They previously founded Microlase Optical Systems, a spin out from the University of Strathclyde back in 1992. It's success, driven by a portfolio of groundbreaking laser products, resulted in an acquisition by Coherent, Inc (one of the world's largest laser companies) in 1999. M Squared Lasers was established May 02, 2006 with the aim of transforming laser technology for the lab.
Technical Director, Bill Miller joined M Squared in late 2006 to take charge of electronic design. With a successful career as chief engineer in computing and high end hi-fi manufacturing, Bill has transformed M Squared's range of automated laser systems and Ice Bloc instrumentation, delivering unmatched performance in electronic and signal processing.
Ultimately, the goal of the M Squared leadership team is to ensure that the company grows successfully, developing industry-leading products that exceed customer expectations, creating a company culture that nurtures its employees and builds strong relationships with customers and partners.
